You did not expect to hear from me again, did you?
This newsletter is about another thing, but I hope you still like it
Hi, it’s Toha.
What are you reading?
You haven’t received an email from me since about a year ago, so let me remind you what’s going on.
It was a newsletter about living an adventurous life. For two whole emails, but it was.
It was a mistake on my side.. Life goes on and things change. I’m still the adventurous person you remember, it’s just that adventures is not something I want to write about constantly.
But…
I constantly have many ideas which, as far as I believe, would be interesting or beneficial for other people. Sometimes they fit into a tweet. Sometimes they are rather a blog post. And when it’s something in between — email is the perfect medium.
The topics of my thoughts vary.
What will you be reading?
So, here are some ground rules this emails will surely follow:
They will be short. Under 1000 words for sure, I’ll try to make it under 500. If I write something longer, I’'ll post it elsewhere and write a summary here with the link to full version if you are interested.
They will contain something useful. Even this one, further down below.
If it is something niche, I will give context and explain why is it useful or important.
Personal. I want my writing to feel like something you won’t find by asking Google or ChatGPT.
So what about the topics?
I can not, want not, and will not stick to one topic.
The one thing that that connects all the emails is me, Toha, your orange adventurous friend.
AI. I’m making a course on using AI tools for kids 10-14 years old, so I’m reading and thinking on this a lot.
(Philosophy of and thoughts about)Mathematics. I know you probably aren’t into math, so I won’t bore you with technicalities. But maybe I will write something related to it.
Adventures and lifestyle in general, or simply something personal.
I don’t know, and that’s the point.
Also, the old name doesn’t fit anymore. I love the phrase beyond the horizon, it feels adventurous, but beyond the horizon of what we are talking about it?
So welcome to…
The Orange Place
I’m sure that’s a TOP name, if you know what I mean…
It does not convey any specific meaning. It’s just that loving orange is probably one of the most constant non-specific thing in my life. For those of you who know me for some time, you I surely associate with this color.
Let’s get to the point. While researching AI I bump into many unexpected applications of AI tools, mainly ChatGPT, but not only. So I will tell you one here.
See how things come and go with ChatGPT
I have a document I write for more than 10 years now. Something like a diary, but I only write in it every 3-4 months or so. I write the main things which happened, how my projects go, how my friends do, etc.
I uploaded it all to ChatGPT and asked it to count how many times names of my close friends were mentioned:
I removed the names themself because, you know, privacy.
The distribution is quite expected and not insightful at all. But then I asked to do the same, but for every 10% of the document(I wrote dates inconsistently so it wasn’t possible to make it into a proper timeline):
Oh, that’s much more interesting! Every line is a different person, and the more mentions they got in a particular time period — the more important(I guess) they were for me. And it really is the case.
The yellow line is my best friend. Pretty consistent for all these years.
The line that’s now the highest(blueish green) is my girlfriend. I met her not so long ago and she is quite an important person for me right now.
So how you can use this? I don’t expect you to have a 10 year long autobiography, but you can upload any relevant data or text(your writing, tweets, reports, books you read, calendar, etc.) and ask ChatGPT to count something. It will deal with organising data and everything — you get just the juicy insights.
Maybe it’s not something useful per se, but at least interesting for retrospective.
Won’t take any much of your time today, we are approaching our 1000 words limit after all!
Hope you will stick with me and this newsletter, but I will absolutely understand if you decide not to, it’s fine.
Btw, if we haven’t been talking in a long time — drop me a DM on twitter, I’d love to chat!
Oh, and I guess, I’m not dropping the end line any time soon…
See you beyond the horizon!
